Editorial standards & corrections

Clear source attribution, meaningful dates and an honest distinction between official requirements and operational suggestions.

Primary sources first

Our initial research uses Home Office, UKVI, GOV.UK and other relevant public-authority publications. A commercial article can raise a question, but a legal threshold or sponsor duty must be checked against the applicable official material. Older PDF versions are reviewed against their parent publication page.

Dates that mean something

We distinguish the publisher’s update date, a rule’s effective date and the date we checked the material. News briefings published on this site on 4 November 2026 may discuss earlier official updates. We do not relabel the source date as today or imply that a checked source remains unchanged.

Legal rules and internal controls

Guides separate sourced requirements from practical suggestions for organising reviews and evidence. Internal audit colours and scores are not official ratings. Student BCA calculations have their own source-based thresholds and transition dates, and remain indicative.

Monitoring and human review

The automated source feed, where a successful check is shown, identifies publisher metadata and source-content changes. A change is not automatically published as an interpreted legal article. Editorial review must confirm the relevant paragraphs, affected routes, commencement arrangements and actions.

When information conflicts

Open the current official source and investigate the conflict before acting. Preserve the version you relied on and record the uncertainty in the source-review log. Material corrections should update the relevant guide, calculator, template and source record together.

No article claims specialist legal sign-off unless such review has actually occurred and is expressly identified.
