England: Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 is in force

Schools and colleges in England should use the September 2026 safeguarding guidance and check the changes affecting staff information.

What the official source says

The Department for Education brought the 2026 edition into force on 1 September 2026. The publication page states that all staff must read Part One in full; the new overview complements it rather than replacing it.

This is an England-specific education safeguarding update. It sits alongside Student and Child Student immigration duties. Providers elsewhere in the UK should use their own applicable national safeguarding framework.

Suggested sponsor action

  • Check which safeguarding edition appears in the school or college policy register.
  • Confirm staff access to the current Part One and the institution’s procedures.
  • Review the handover between safeguarding concerns and sponsor-compliance decisions.
